About Me
Ashley is a Master of Social Work Student at the University of Houston. She strives to create a safe, understanding, and trustworthy environment for her clients as they navigate the healing process. Her therapeutic niche is working with children and tweens, and she is pursuing her Registered play therapy credential.
Ashley was raised in Cypress, Texas. She moved to Stephenville, Texas where she studied Criminal Justice at Tarleton State University. In addition to her major, she had a double concentration in Psychology and Social Equity. Moving to a small town gave Ashley a different perspective on mental health, policies, and the criminal justice system. When she was little, she wanted to be a therapist but changed her career path because she was afraid her dreams were “too big.” While on a tour at the Estelle Prison in Huntsville, Ashley discovered her true calling is to help those whose voices may not always feel heard. Her original plan was to work as a therapist in a prison, but she quickly changed her mind after observing child-centered play therapy. Ashley has a special interest in mental health, trauma, attachment, and learning other modalities throughout her time at Julia’s Counseling.
Ashley brings valuable experience working with children and applying child-centered play therapy techniques. Ashley has worked in private practice throughout prior internships in graduate school observing play therapy sessions, leading social skills groups, and reading literature on attachment, play therapy, child development, and social skills.
Looking ahead, Ashley is working towards expanding her expertise through various clinical certifications and training opportunities during her time at Julia's Counseling. She anticipates further certifications in play therapy and is continuing her professional development and enhancing her therapeutic skills.
During her free time, Ashley enjoys spending time with her loved ones (especially her dogs), watching tv, eating desserts, or creating new memories.
