About Me

Madalyn is a graduate level student completing her Masters in social work with a clinical focus from the University of Houston. She is working with ages 16+ and adults who are interested in working on depression/mood disorders, trauma, self-worth, developing a fulfilling sexual life, and gender and sexual orientation concerns. She takes a person-centered approach– believing each person is the expert of their own lives and can utilize their strengths and resources to improve their functioning. She believes it is important to have a person-in-environment approach to get a comprehensive understanding of an individual's life.

Madalyn received her Bachelor of arts in psychology with a minor in educational psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2021. She is currently working on her Masters in social work with a clinical focus and will graduate in spring 2025. She currently works full-time at a community mental health agency where she does mental health triages, intake assessments, and crisis intervention. This has given her three years of experience working with individuals with concerns such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation, self-harm, domestic abuse, and homelessness.

Madalyn is trained in modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), shame resilience, and motivational interviewing (MI). She also utilizes psycho-education, sex education, mindfulness, and a trauma-informed lens while working with clients. She is looking forward to developing her skills further during her Practicum year at Julia's Counseling by learning dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), the Gottman method for couples, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). As well as learning how to address/challenge oppressive systems in a therapeutic setting and increasing her knowledge on human sexuality.

In her free time she enjoys reading, going for walks, spending time in nature, and going to local markets.
