About Me

Ali Obey is a licensed master social worker, who specializes in working with adolescents ages 10-19 and adults. Her areas of expertise include working with people who seek healing from trauma, Anxiety and Depression, body image issues, other mood disorders, and PTSD. Ali believes that each individual has unique strengths that can be used in overcoming their challenges, and values building a safe and compassionate environment for healing.

 

Ali received a bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2020, with an emphasis on community action and social change from the University of Michigan. She then completed her Master’s of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2021. Ali has previous experience in a Child and Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry department practicing individual therapy with children, adolescents, and their families. She previously worked at a psychiatric Outpatient Hospital where she facilitated group therapy for adults focusing on healing from mental health challenges and substance abuse. She currently works as a Renal Social Worker supporting patients with adjustment to illness, managing depression, and assisting with patients’ case management needs.

Ali practices from a strengths-based, person in environment approach. She emphasizes the importance and power of cognitions, as well as the mind-body relationship. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as other complimentary modalities that may be helpful for the client, she seeks to support clients with compassion through any challenge they may be enduring or healing from. Her goal is to support patient’s in self-realization and acceptance while building on their unique strengths that contribute to their resiliency. ​

In her free time, she enjoys going to sporting events with her husband, cuddling on the couch with her dog, and training for marathons. Ali loves to cook and is passionate about animals and volunteering at a therapeutic horse ranch.
