EMDR Trained

About Me

Julia Cedeño is a licensed clinical social worker, registered play therapist, EMDR trained clinician, and certified trauma practitioner.  She specializes in working with children ages 2-18 and their families, and adults seeking to heal from the chains of childhood trauma(s).  She enjoys supervising licensed master social workers seeking clinical licensure. Her areas of expertise include working with children of trauma, mood disorders, children with gifted capabilities (2OE), sexual abuse, PTSD, attachment issues, anger issues, mother-daughter conflict, school related concerns, foster/adoptive parenting, and behavioral/conduct issues. Julia believes that the earliest life experiences shape our view of life and our present behaviors, and treating these earliest experiences can alleviate almost all maladaptive behaviors and thought patterns.

Julia is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with her Bachelors of Social Work in 2007 and Masters of Science in Social Work in 2009.  She has experience in the elementary, middle and high school settings dealing with trauma, grief and loss, mindfulness and emotional regulation, body image issues, and non suicidal self injury.  She utilizes sensory based interventions, EMDR, Sandtray, other forms of expressive arts, Sandtray, Child centered/Adlerian play therapy with children and teens.  She has formed and run therapeutic groups on the elementary, middle and high school levels.  She chaired the RtI* (Response to Intervention) committee and was Section 504 coordinator at her previous campuses, so she has first hand knowledge to help guide families through the education system. (RtI is the gateway system in Texas for student access to psychological and intellectual testing and special education services)

After working for school districts in Texas for seven years, she decided to move full force ahead with her passion and open up her own private practice where she could provide families the highest quality of service in a safe and supportive environment.  Play therapy, EDMR, Sandtray, Attachment theory, and Theraplay® guide much of her practice with children, especially those who have experienced attachment disruptions and/or traumatic events in their childhood.  She is also trained in in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and seeking certification with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitizaiton and Reprocessing).

In addition to being a prominent attachment based therapist, her therapeutic approach is to provide strengths based support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing. The mission of her group practice is Quality over Quantity. We strive to be the best we can be with our knowledge and ability to be present with each client.  I value self care of myself and my therapists, so that we are able to truly be our best self and available to you fully in our hour of session and time in between when needed.

In her free time, she enjoys being with her 2 young children and husband doing anything in nature. When she isn't able to be outside in nature, she enjoys baking/cooking, crafting, organizing and re-organizing, thrift shopping, and learning how to have a green thumb.
