About Me

Megan Washburn is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and National Certified Counselor. She is passionate about the play therapy process and focuses on helping children and adolescents explore and understand their emotions. She works with children, adolescents, and their families to provide support through a variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, and life transitions. She strives to assist client’s in recognizing their own abilities and strengths while also providing psychoeducation and tools to achieve their desired outcomes.

Megan’s approach to working with clients stems from a CBT perspective with a person-centered view, creating a collaborative and strengths-based process. She believes in creating a safe and calm environment for individuals to be heard and validated in their life experiences. She recognizes play as the language children use to express themselves and navigate emotions. Megan also believes in incorporating mindfulness techniques and enjoys teaching children different coping strategies in playful and engaging ways. She often incorporates sand tray as well as expressive art techniques into sessions to promote creativity and exploration of thoughts and feelings.

Megan received her Bachelor’s of Psychology from Texas A&M University in 2018. She earned her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling at Texas State University in August of 2022. Through her time at Texas State, Megan received hands-on training in child-centered play therapy as well as experience working with adolescents, teens, and parents. She has worked for non-profit organizations to assist at-risk youth and families through times of transitions as well as providing parenting support, coping skills, and crisis intervention. She co-facilitated a Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) group to assist parents in establishing strong connections by incorporating play therapy skills with their own children in daily life. She has also led youth skills groups for managing and identifying anxiety.

In her free time, Megan enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing at home with her two cats. She also enjoys shopping, spending time outside, and yoga. She spends a lot of time creating art and growing her indoor plant collection.
